Unique Educational Requirements
Examination Boards information and useful links for students and parents
In Australia, each state or territory operates its own educational system, featuring distinct assessment and certification structures. Here are the primary examination boards or systems across the country:
New South Wales (NSW):
The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) administers the Higher School Certificate (HSC) for students concluding their secondary education in NSW. NESA oversees the HSC assessments and certification.
Victoria:
Secondary school students who successfully finish their studies in Victoria receive the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), managed by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) which conducts VCE examinations.
Queensland:
The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) supervises the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) for senior secondary students in Queensland.
South Australia:
For students in South Australia, the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is administered by the South Australian Certificate of Education Board (SACE Board).
Western Australia:
Students completing secondary education in Western Australia earn the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), managed by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA).
Tasmania:
The Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) is granted to students finishing senior secondary education in Tasmania. It is regulated by the Office of Tasmanian Assessment, Standards & Certification (TASC).
Australian Capital Territory (ACT):
The ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (ACTBSSS) oversees the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education in the Australian Capital Territory.
Northern Territory:
Completing senior secondary education in the Northern Territory leads to the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET), awarded by the Northern Territory Board of Studies (NTBOS).
These educational boards or systems in Australia manage the development and implementation of assessments, examinations, and certification procedures for students completing their secondary education in their respective states or territories. The International Baccalaureate (IB)
The International Baccalaureate, formerly known as the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), is a non-profit foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and founded in 1968. It offers four educational programmes: the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related Programme for students aged 15 to 19, the IB Middle Years Programme for students aged 11 to 16, and the IB Primary Years Programme for children aged 3 to 12. To teach these programs, schools must be authorized by the International Baccalaureate. The key benefit of the IB is global compatibility, which can be especially important for students with ambitions to complete undergraduate courses overseas. Some Independent Schools in Scotland and England offer IB courses and welcome enquiries to discuss the benefits for individual students needs and ambitions.
